Module 1-Introduction

This module is a short introduction to the Online Counselling Fundamentals training course. Unlike the other modules in this course, there is no review checklist, experiential activity or quiz that is required to be completed at the end of Module 1. The intent of this module is to orient you about to scope of this course, describe what the course entails, and provide a description of what is covered in each module. Module 1 also provides some points that should be taken into consideration when determining if providing eTherapy is the right fit for you.

Module 2- Introduction to the Practice of eTherapy

This module provides information in an introductory manner about the practice of eTherapy, and its industry. This information includes explanations as to why eTherapy is relevant in today’s society, definitions, the history of eTherapy, and what the future of eTherapy may look like. Learners will feel knowledgeable about how eTherapy came to be, and what it encompasses in todays society. Module 2 includes this information, along with a module review summary checklist, an experiential activity, and a 10 question module review quiz. A mark of at least 70% is required on the quiz to move on to the next module, but you have unlimited quiz attempts to achieve this mark.

Module 3- The Benefits of Practicing eTherapy

This module discusses the many benefits of receiving and providing eTherapy services. The first half of the module provides information about the many benefits of receiving eTherapy services from the clients point of view. This knowledge will help therapists better understand the feasibility and advantages that accessing eTherapy services has for the clients, and may help therapists to better market their eTherapy services. The second half of the module discuss the benefits of providing eTherapy services from a therapists point of view. This module include a comprehensive discussion of the many barriers to accessing mental health services that eTherapy helps to eliminate, along with a module review summary checklist, an experiential activity, and a 10 question module review quiz. A mark of at least 70% is required on the quiz to move on to the next module, but you have unlimited quiz attempts to achieve this mark.

Module 4- Challenges of Practicing eTherapy

This module discusses the challenges that may arise while practicing eTherapy, as well as possible solutions to these challenges. These challenges include aspects such as a lack of physical presence, technology complications, limits to suitability of eTherapy, and some privacy complications of eTherapy. This module also includes a list of secure and HIPAA compliant softwares that can be used throughout your eTherapy practice, and several solutions to some of these challenges that may arise. Module 4 includes this information, along with a module review summary checklist, an experiential activity, and a 10 question module review quiz. A mark of at least 70% is required on the quiz to move on to the next module, but you have unlimited quiz attempts to achieve this mark.

Module 5- Personal and Clinical Skills Required for eTherapy

This module discusses some of the personal and clinical skills/requirements that may be necessary for the safe and ethical provision of eTherapy. The requirements discussed include aspects such as accreditation, licensing, and technical skills that should be considered when providing eTherapy. This module also explores some clinical skills and methodologies that may be useful throughout your eTherapy practice. Specific studies that provide support for methodologies in addressing different mental health concerns over various eTherapy platforms are included. These studies are intended to provide therapists with basic knowledge about some of the clinical skills and approaches that may be used throughout the practice of eTherapy. Module 5 includes this information, along with a module review summary checklist, an experiential activity, and a 10 question module review quiz. A mark of at least 70% is required on the quiz to move on to the next module, but you have unlimited quiz attempts to achieve this mark.

Module 6- eTherapy Methodologies

This module explores the empirically supported methodologies, limitations, and techniques used in providing eTherapy for some of the more common mental health concerns. Module 6 is broken down into four sections that more deeply explore some of the logistics and methodologies used throughout the provision of the four main types of eTherapy that are addressed int his course: video call, phone call, instant messaging, and email. Each sections describes what is required to provide each method of eTherapy, and some methodologies that are supported to be effective in addressing various mental health concerns. This module and course does not provide a step-by-step description of how to run an eTherapy session, but instead provides the background research and information necessary to feel capable of providing eTherapy through the various platforms. Module 6 includes this information, along with a module review summary checklist, an experiential activity, and a 10 question module review quiz. Module 7- Professional Ethics

This module examines the professional ethics of practicing eTherapy. Module 7 includes professional concerns such as licensing and insurance coverage across regional boundaries, ways to mitigate risk with clients, the privacy implications of online counselling, and a brief review and links to resources regarding state laws and regulatory body guidelines. This module focuses on some of the ethical concerns and considerations that the therapist may have within their professional eTherapy practice. Module 7 includes this information, along with a module review summary checklist, an experiential activity, and a 10 question module review quiz. A mark of at least 70% is required on the quiz to move on to the next module, but you have unlimited quiz attempts to achieve this mark.

Module 8- Practical Ethics

This module examines the practical (actual act of providing eTherapy) and ethical implications of providing eTherapy. Module 8 explores some practical situations such as assessing client suitability and obtaining consent, maintaining HIPAA compliance, how to deal with a client emergency from a distance, and confidentiality implications. This module discusses some ethical considerations that may arise during the actual provision of eTherapy and how to deal with them. Module 8 includes this information, along with a module review summary checklist, an experiential activity, and a 10 question module review quiz. A mark of at least 70% is required on the quiz to move on to the next module, but you have unlimited quiz attempts to achieve this mark.

Module 9- The Business of eTherapy

This module explores the business skills and commitments that are necessary in starting, growing, and maintaining a successful online therapy practice. This module provides insight into some considerations and business related strategies that may be useful throughout your practice. This business related information includes aspects such as what is required to start your business, some 'How To's' of the operational logistics, and some marketing strategies. This module provides some basic information about the business side of your eTherapy practice and business. Module 9 includes this information, along with a module review summary checklist, an experiential activity, and a 10 question module review quiz. A mark of at least 70% is required on the quiz to move on to the next module, but you have unlimited quiz attempts to achieve this mark.

Module 10- Summary and Review

Module 10 is a brief summary of some of the key topics that were addressed throughout the course. This review reiterates important points about many different aspects of eTherapy such as its feasibility, benefits, challenges, major ethical implications, important considerations throughout the practice, and some business components of the eTherapy industry. This module essentially provides the ‘take home messages’ of the course. There is a comprehensive list of all the links provided throughout the module for you to reference in the future. Module 10 also includes final review test of all the information learned throughout the course, which is approximately 80 questions long. A mark of at least 80% is required on this final test to complete the course, however you are allowed unlimited attempts to achieve this mark.
